Hello Herrick Families,
This school year we are excited to bring back the Halloween Parade! I know that many of our students are beginning to prepare by selecting a Halloween costume. The following are Halloween Guidelines that all students must abide by:
A) Costumes: Our district has a policy that states all students must comply with the dress code restriction against images that are "vulgar, sexually suggestive, discriminatory, obscene, libelous, contain threats, or that promote illegal or violent content such as the unlawful use of weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or drug paraphernalia" or cause a significant disruption or distraction to the school program.
B) Visibility: Ensure that costumes do not hinder vision. No costume can be worn that is unsafe or that may create a safety hazard. Costumes may not impair a student's vision or movement. Masks may not completely obscure the identity of the student. However, masks may be worn during the parade, provided that safety is not hindered.
C) Weapons: Costumes with realistic/replica weapons are prohibited as they can cause confusion and safety issues.
D) Accessories: The use of props or accessories that might create tripping hazards or pose risks to others are discouraged.
E) Allergen Awareness and Dietary Restrictions: Halloween is synonymous with candy and treats, but many of these items contain common allergens such as peanuts, dairy, or gluten, which can be dangerous for students with allergies.
We encourage parents to check for any unwrapped or suspicious items and dispose of them.
If your child does not celebrate Halloween, please notify his/her teacher. We will ensure that your child does not participate in any Halloween festivities in the classroom or outside of the classroom.
Please feel free to reach out to our office if you have any questions/concerns @ 818-367-1864.
Best,
J. L. Dorado, Principal
