Herrick Avenue Elementary is a tradicional public elementary school that first opened July 1, 1959.

September 24, 1959 reads, "Outdoor Lunch -- Youngsters at Herrick Avenue School, 13350 Herrick Ave., Sylmar, enjoy patio lunch hour at new $546,908 plant. Designed by Architect Carleton M. Winslow and built by general contractor Herbert Goldsworthy, it has 16 classrooms, including two kindergarten rooms, an administration unit and cafeteria. Herrick is one of 12 new schools opened this term."
